WHAT CAR RENTALS COMPANIES DO YOU RECOMMEND?
Hertz, Enterprise, Eurocar (and many others) are available at most airports. For U.S. drivers, your U.S. license is all that is needed to drive in Scotland.
*It is recommended that U.S. drivers pickup their rental cars from an airport rather than a city location, as airports are much easier to navigate out from. City locations tend to have smaller narrow streets, quick turns, and many more roundabouts that make it difficult for a first time left-side driver to navigate.
WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO FLY?
Overnight.
On the East coast, we recommend finding flights that depart around 8pm - 10pm, and you will land at roughly 8am - 10am, including the time difference.
From the Midwest, flights that depart around 6 or 7pm to connect at an east coast airport will arrive around 8am - 10am, including the time difference.
From the West coast, flights that depart around 3pm or so, depending on your connection, will get you there around 8am - 10am including the time difference as well.
WHY FLY OVERNIGHT?
To beat the jet-lag. Our travel planner highly recommends doing this, sleeping however much you can on the plane overnight and landing around 8:00am - 12:00pm Edinburgh time. (5 hours ahead). Then grab some coffee and POWER THROUGH the day!
Stay up as late as you can on your first day. Check into your hotel, try to refrain from a nap (or take a brief one!), and schedule some sightseeing. Tour recs: the Historic Mary King's Close, or Edinburgh Castle are great. This will ensure that when you do finally hit the pillow, you have a good chance of sleeping through the night and waking up in the morning on the right time zone. Ready for the rest of your week!
WHEN DO YOU RECOMMEND ARRIVING?
Our travel planner recommends getting there a 1-2 days in advance of the wedding to allow your body to adjust to the time change, and take advantage of some of the sights Scotland has to offer, either in Edinburgh, or elsewhere!
